We are writing to you today with some difficult news and a necessary plan for the Tangerine server. First and foremost, we want to extend our sincerest apologies to every player affected by the recent server instability. We are acutely aware of the hard work, time, and dedication you’ve poured into your bases and progress over the last few days, and we are incredibly sorry that this has been lost.
What Happened?
Following our last wipe, a critical bug emerged after the first server restart. This restart unfortunately coincided with a new update from Facepunch, and we believe the issue may be related to an unforeseen conflict. This bug has caused catastrophic issues, including walls, items, and even miners disappearing from player bases. For some of you, it has made logging in impossible.
We immediately contacted our hosting provider, Pine Hosting, to see if a rollback or a fix was possible. Unfortunately, they have confirmed there is nothing they can do to restore the server to the working state we had at the start of the wipe.
The Immediate Action: An Emergency Wipe
Because the server is in a broken and unplayable state for many, we have no choice but to perform an emergency wipe. This is the only way to ensure everyone can connect and have a stable experience.
The Tangerine server will wipe and restart today, Sunday, September 7th, at 16:00 UTC (12:00 PM EDT).
The Future of Tangerine: Focusing Our Community
This situation has forced us to accelerate a difficult decision about the future of the server. This new wipe will be the last one for Tangerine.
When we launched Tangerine, our hope was that its unique custom environments and PVE focus would attract new players towards Bitcoin rewarded servers including our partners at the Orange server. While we’ve seen some of this happen, Tangerine has not achieved the player numbers needed to create advertisement value for potential Bitcoin company sponsors. To ensure the long-term health of the broader community, we have decided to close down the Tangerine server after this final run.
As we close this chapter, we want to warmly invite you to make a new home with our partners over on the Orange and Mandarin servers. For players who thrive on conflict, raids, and high-stakes encounters, the Orange server offers a pure, challenging PVP experience. If you prefer to focus on building, collaboration, and surviving the elements without the threat of other players, the Mandarin server provides a dedicated PVE environment. The future for these two servers is incredibly bright. The team at Orange is eagerly awaiting Rust’s upcoming Nexus update, which will allow them to link the servers together, creating a unified world where you can travel between PVE and PVP zones. By encouraging our players to join the community on these servers now, we are helping to build the foundation for this exciting, interconnected Rust experience.
Tangerine’s Last Stand: A Final Rewards Weekend
We want Tangerine to go out with a bang, not a bug. This final wipe will be a throwback to a simpler, more chaotic Rust experience, culminating in a high-stakes rewards weekend.
- Back to Basics: For the next week, the server will be a mixed PVE/PVP experience. Most of our expanded plugins, including mining, will be disabled to ensure stability. There will be no scrap grind—just pure, classic Rust survival.
- A Note on Block 11: For those who have not yet claimed your blood from Block 11, you will be able to do so during this final shortened block.
- The Blood Harvest Begins: The main event will kick off on Saturday, September 13th, at 12:00 AM UTC.
- Capture the Monuments: Special crates will begin spawning at monuments. These crates contain direct blood. You and your team will need to capture and hold these monuments while the crates unlock. Monuments will return to being PVP based.
- Claim Your Sats: Once you have the blood, you can use the familiar
/sendblood
command to withdraw it directly to your wallet as sats. - Event End: The rewards event will run through the weekend and conclude on Monday, September 15th, at 12:00 AM UTC.
The server will remain online for a few days following the event, and we will officially shut it down later that week.
In Summary
We understand this is frustrating news. The loss of progress due to a bug is never acceptable, and the decision to sunset a server is not one we take lightly. We are deeply grateful for every player who called Tangerine home, and we value the support you’ve shown.
We sincerely hope you will join us for this final, memorable week on Tangerine and then continue your journey on the Orange and Mandarin servers. By joining them, you can help build a stronger, more focused community for everyone.
Thank you for your understanding.
