Mining Gets Real
In previous blocks, players could stumble upon mining rigs scattered across the map or snag them from events—a lucky find that fueled early-game hash production with little friction. Over time, we introduced cooling systems for purchase at Outpost, aiming to shift mining from a purely loot-based mechanic to a more intentional pursuit. Now, in Block 8, we’re going a step further.
Miners will no longer appear in standard loot tables or event rewards.
Players will now be able to purchase miners from Outpost or through the Battlepass, you can also battle it out the hard way by stealing miners from NPCs at Raidable Bases. This change brings mining in Tangerine more in line with the real world. In Bitcoin mining, you don’t find ASICs lying around—you invest in the hardware, then work to recoup your cost over time. We’re bringing that philosophy into the game.
This update also aims to reinvigorate scrap’s value, giving players a reason to stockpile and spend wisely rather than passively accumulating hash through random finds. By removing miners from general loot and event drops, players must now make intentional purchasing decisions—prioritizing upgrades, cooling and blueprints.
It also introduces a more competitive approach to economic progression. In previous blocks, players could recycle surplus miners for large scrap returns—an opportunity that helped kickstart many bases. With that route no longer available, scrap becomes a more deliberate and valuable currency. Players who plan, trade and manage resources wisely will have the edge in Block 8’s economy.
And perhaps most notably:
Miners no longer decay.
Once purchased, your mining rig will stay active for the rest of the wipe—no more 24-hour countdown timers. It’s yours to power, protect, and optimize. That said, cooling still matters. Players will still need to invest in cooling equipment to prevent overheating. Just like in previous wipes, if your miner isn’t properly cooled, it can still overheat and explode—possibly taking your investment with it.
Bloodsport
With miner components leaving events and standard loot tables, we wanted to ensure that PvP events still offer meaningful rewards—and encourage real competition. In Block 8, we’re introducing a new incentive: blood as event loot.
Starting with Block 8, events will now include 21 blood as part of their reward pool. These events trigger at the top of every hour, as long as at least 5 players are online, and the blood will be up for grabs to those who fight their way to the finish.
This is not replacing the 100,000 blood distributed at the end of the wipe based on total hash turn-ins—that system remains intact. Instead, this is an entirely new stream of blood, available to players throughout the wipe and designed to reward active participation in the moment.
More importantly, this shift helps establish blood as a true in-game currency. Players can now earn blood regularly and use it to trade for items, kits, or services from others. Whether you’re negotiating for gear, paying for protection, or bartering for materials, blood gains new relevance in the player-driven economy of Block 8.
Get ready to show up, gear up, and get paid in blood.
Vendor Overhaul
With scrap taking center stage in Block 8, we’re reworking how players interact with server vendors. In past wipes, server-run shops accepted a mix of currencies, but that variety made it hard for players to know what to prioritize—and what to spend. That’s changing this wipe.
All server vendors will now use scrap as their currency.
Whether you’re buying miners, gear, or utility items, your go-to exchange will be scrap. This makes scrap the unified economic backbone of Tangerine—earned through loot, trade, and smart farming, and now required for most purchases.
This shift is designed to simplify the economy, increase the value of in-world activity, and make it easier for new players to understand where to begin. Whether you’re farming, fighting, or flipping loot—scrap is king.
Monument Mayhem
Up until now, PVP zones were selectively applied to monuments—mainly those with crate drops, recyclers, or other high-value features. A few exceptions existed, but these were typically areas already guarded by powerful NPCs, where conflict was naturally high.
In Block 8, we’re taking things further:
All monuments will now be designated as PVP zones.
From top-tier loot hubs to mid-tier sites, every monument will now include a PVP bubble, creating consistent expectations for risk and reward across the map. This not only encourages more dynamic player interactions, but also ensures that monument loot is truly contested.
We’re also increasing the size of PVP zones around monuments to give players more room to maneuver, flank, and fight. Whether you’re sneaking in solo or rolling up with your team, you’ll now have more tactical space to work with—and more reasons to watch your back.
Block 8 turns every monument into a potential warzone. Enter with caution, leave with loot—if you survive.
